Come and enjoy a walk in the Winelands
The De Zalze Golf Course is situated on a Golf and Wine Estate of the same name in the heart of the Cape Winelands, Stellenbosch. The Course is well situated with its’ clubhouse overlooking the Stellenbosch Mountains and the Blaauwklippen River.
The course is an 18-hole, 72 Par Parklands style golf course, 6 369 meters in length with kikuyu fairways and cool season bent grass greens. Course architect, Peter Matkovich, made the most of this stunning setting and designed a course with the emphasis on accuracy. Peter Matkovish is well known for his course design in the Cape and has also been the architect who created the beautiful and professional Leopard Rock, Arabella and Pinnacle Point Courses, to name a few.
The main challenges on this course are the well placed water hazards found on several holes as well as the Oak Tree lined Blaauwklippen River which winds through the Course creating hazards at various intervals. Hole 13 is without a doubt, the feature hole of the course with a boardwalk that leads to a selection of trees in the heart of a dam. Hole 17 offers one of the toughest, yet memorable par 5’s golfers will ever play. The mountain backdrop seen from the tree lined fairway creates a perfect painting with a central bunker complex the focal point.
The 300 hectare Wineland's Golf Estate is also a fully functional wine estate and guests have the opportunity to enjoy wine tastings, picturesque accommodation and fine dining at the Estate Restaurant.
The Golf Course has hosted numerous tournaments including the World Amateur Championships as well as the largest South African Amateur Championships back in 2006.
