Wemmershoek is a small village situated at the T-Junction of the R301 and R45 in the Western Cape. It is beautifully nestled between a pine tree forest and has panoramic views over the Franschoek Valley, famous for its wines.

The Wemmershoek Dam, established in 1957, on the Wemmershoek River, is an earth-filled dam with a capacity of 58 644 000 m3 behind a 55 m high wall. The dam serves mainly for municipal and industrial use and it hazard potential has been ranked high.
