A taste of village life ...
Stanford which was established as a farming community features an assortment of charming renovated cottages and Cape Victorian and Edwardian architecture and is regarded as one of South Africa's best-preserved villages. Its heritage status is protected both by law and by an enthusiastic and dedicated conservation trust
This charming little village is mid-way between the resorts of Hermanus and Gansbaai on the Cape Whale Coast and is situated on the banks of the Klein River, about 90 minutes from Cape Town International Airport. The roads are narrow and the majority still gravel.
Things to do & see
The surrounding valleys feature numerous vineyards, award-winning cheeses from the Klein River Cheese Factory, which sells delectable Leiden and Gruyere cheeses and a micro-brewery where they have many unique blends of beer on tap.
The Kleinriver passes through Stanford and is home to an abundance of birds and wildlife.
There are boat cruises and kayak trips down the river and it is probably the ideal spot for birdwatching. During the month of October there is an annual Bird Fair.
You can take a gentle cruise down the river, go quad biking, canoeing, kayaking or horse riding. Enjoy arts, crafts and antique shopping in the village or relax at one of the restaurants, coffee shops or the local pub.
