Sasolburg can be found in the northernmost corner of the Free State, on the banks of the Vaal River. It forms part of the well-known Vaal Triangle along with Vanderbijlpark and Vereeniging.

Sasolburg is a pleasant town, known for the glow of the exhaust flames and the distinctive, sweetish odour from the Sasol Refinery, the reason for the towns existence. Interestingly, despite all the industrial activities, Sasolburg has a wonderful environmental awareness program and is home to more flora than people. Approximately 72 000 trees have been planted in Sasolburg and the town boasts almost 12 000 oak trees, including 26 different oak variants.

The towns location on the banks of the Vaal River, and its’ close proximity to the Vaal Dam, is all part of Sasolburg’s appeal. The area is famous for weekend getaways where visitors keep themselves entertained with a host of water sports and other leisure activities like hiking, theatre, art and weekend markets.

When it comes to accommodation there is no shortage of hotels, guest houses, self-catering units, B&B’s and caravan and camping parks.
