The S46 runs mostly along the Engelhard Dam close to the Letaba Camp. When turning off from the S94 towards the dam, you get a great view of the Engelhard dam. There is a lot of opportunities for game viewing on this road and along the banks of the river. Lions can often be seen spending time in the sun on the rocks, hippos and crocodiles in the river and herds of elephants and buffalo coming for a drink. Leopards are also seen regularly in the bush next to the road.
The road along the river have a lot of turns towards the river bank, where you can drive right up to the waterside. Here you'll see abundant birdlife, from herons, storks, black crake, african jacana, spoonbills and many more.
This is a great road for a late afternoon drive.
The S46 is 17 kilometers (11 miles) long.
