The Groenkloof Nature Reserve in Gauteng of South Africa is situated just 5 km from the city of Pretoria.

The area was first proclaimed a game sanctuary by South African President Paul Kruger in 1895, the first on the African continent. The Resort and Nature Reserve we have today has been developed by the Nature Conservation and Resort Section of the Tshwane Municipality after it took responsibility of the Reserve in 1994. In 1999 game was reintroduced into the area and this included, Kudu, Blue Wildebeest, Impala, Zebra and Ostrich. Giraffe, Red Hartbees and Sable Antelope were added to the Reserve in 2002 and in total there are over 20 mammal species present today.

With a rich birdlife present, any bird lover will be kept busy for hours while the more energetic take a hiking trail, running trail or mountain bike trail.
