Polokwane (Pietersburg) is situated halfway between Pretoria and the Zimbabwean Border in the Limpopo Province of South Africa.
Polokwane is the capital of Limpopo and is ideally situated for historical and cultural experiences, mountain breakaways and for tourists heading off to the Kruger National Park and Magoebaskloof. It is a bustling modern city, with wide streets, many shops and several hotels.
The city holds an enviable position and has long enjoyed a history of prosperity and rapid growth given its proximity to Gauteng and neighbouring countries of Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Swaziland.

Polokwane experiences rainfall mainly in the summer months with the highest occurring in December and January.
Summer months, November to March will have average temperatures of between 18˚C and 26˚C.
Winter months, May to August will have average temperatures of between 4˚C and 21˚C.
Driving to Polokwane from Johannesburg will take approximately 3 hours along the N1.

The original town of Pietersburg was found on the farm Sterkloop in 1884 by Andries Potgieter, leader of the Voortrekkers. The town earned city status on 23 April 1892.
In February 2002 Pietersburg was renamed Polokwane, meaning “place of safety”.
