South Africa
places you will never forget

This is a hike with a difference, no fauna and flora with mountain views, but oh so much to see. So if you are a history enthusiast why not take the historic walk through the streets of Mossel Bay and discover the historical buildings and facts in the Old Quarter.

The walk begins at the Tourism Office where you can find the route map which marks all the historical buildings along the way, each with a description. There are 68 buildings in the town that are of significance and the walk offers insights into the development of the town during the second half of the 19th Century. Many of the stone masons who built these intriguing buildings were originally from Cornwall, but decided to settle here.

Some of the places you will visit along the walk are municipal and commercial buildings, homes, churches, schools and a lighthouse. All these buildings along the way where built between 1830 and 1900. It’s a walk the whole family can enjoy, have lunch at one of the buildings on the list, Café Havana or Panarotti’s and enjoy the history of Mossel Bay.
