15.6km / 5-9 Hours / Permit required / Entrance fee payable

Bloupunt Hiking Trail at 15.6km is the longest trail in Montagu and is a fantastic day out for those who enjoy a challenge. It can take anywhere between five and nine hours to complete; depending on individual capabilities, weather conditions and the size of your group. The panoramas are constantly changing as they vary between ravines with mountain streams to craggy cliffs with some amazing rock formations. The summit at 1266m presents you with breathtaking views in every direction as far as the eye can see. On a clear day you can see the nearby towns of Ashton, McGregor, Robertson, Bonnievale and of course, Montagu itself.

About halfway up there are two fresh water points where it is advisable to fill up your water bottles as there is no water at the top.

Down from the summit, just off the main route, there are three pretty little waterfalls which offer the perfect opportunity for you to cool off.

Overnight accommodation is available at Klipspringer Cabin 1,5km from the parking area. This is a stone cabin with dormitory-type sleeping quarters for 12 hikers in total - 6 in each room. Woodfired stoves, braai facilities, hot water ablution and toilet facilities are available.
