The smell of coffee brewing and scrumptious meals! This is what you can expect when visiting Picadilli’s Coffee & Gift Shop, one of the most popular restaurants and places to eat in the little Karoo town of Middelburg.
Since 2009, rain or shine, Picadilli’s is open, with outside tables under shady trees overlooking a plant nursery for warmer afternoons or indoor seating for chilly winter days. The restaurant serves from breakfast to late lunch time and light lunches can include anything from salads to burgers. If you looking for something a little more unique try their very popular Roosterkoeke (Grilled-baked Bread) served with delicious filling combinations. Enjoy your breakfast or lunch before or after your shopping, Picadilli’s has a wonderful range of knick knacks, clothing and gifts for friends and family, or just for treating yourself.
The building, “Tritton House” has an interesting history. Mr Tritton was the Magistrate in 1939 and although he and his wife left Middelburg in 1942, their hearts remained with the community as his whole estate was left to the Middelburg Red Cross upon his death. The building was bought with his estate money and named in remembrance of this dearly loved philanthropist. The quaint and quirky front of house, from white picket fence to pink polka dot pillars, makes sure you don’t pass by without popping in for a coffee and a browse around the little shop. Come in and enjoy a little Karoo hospitality.
