Butterfly Farm & Curios Creatures
Butterfly Valley can be found in the suburb of Ramsgate in the popular South Coast holiday destination of Margate. Its’ diversity and educational facilities makes for a great family outing and a wonderful attraction all year round.
Butterfly Valley specialises in South African butterflies and unlike most other butterfly farms who import their pupae, they breed most of their own butterflies. This allows them the unique opportunity to present the entire life cycle of these beautiful and amazing creatures to the public and visitors can experience being part of the butterflies’ home in a special hands-on way with a walk-through tour. If you lucky you may see a butterfly emerging from its pupa and pumping fluid through its wings to expand them!
The flight dome allows visitors to walk freely with the “at home” butterflies which are rather calm and will often flit and fly and even perch nearby offering perfect photo opportunities to their guests. The dome provides the right type of plants for each butterfly species and visitors can ask advice on how they can make a difference in the survival of butterflies in their area.
In addition to the wonderful world of butterflies, the venue also provides a section of a few curious creatures which includes bearded dragons, the emperor scorpion and even the Australian spiny leaf insect.
Butterfly Valley will keep you amused for a few hours and don’t forget to visit the Craft Shop before leaving and pick out a special gift or memento from children’s toys to original art pieces.
