The world famous National Arts Festival is an important event on the South African cultural calendar. It is the biggest annual celebration of the Arts on the African continent and many international Artists head to SA’s cultural mecca each year to enjoy the drama, comedy, music, dance and art that will be on show for 11 days in the small University town, only 130 km’s from Port Elizabeth.
With over 500 performances there is something for everyone among the estimated 50 000 visitors expected. Enjoy entertainment from street performances and buskers to world-acclaimed ballet and opera, but don’t forget to also visit the historic Rhodes University grounds, find a favourite local watering hole and engage with the locals. Every corner of the town gets involved, every bit of space that can be, will be utilised for performance space. Even the locals rent out their homes to festival goers, so don’t hesitate and start booking your winter’s vacation - come indulge in the beautiful Arts of SA!
