The coastal resort of Hamburg lies on the estuary of the Keiskammer River. Its great fishing and beautiful beaches have resulted in the town developing into a popular holiday resort.

In the river and lagoon cob, spotted grunter, pignose grunter and the occasional leervis are hooked. Sea anglers frequently make good catches of siver and black steenbras, blackfish, bluefish and blacktail. (Fishing permits are required).

As the town's name suggests, it was founded by German settlers, in 1857, who set out to establish a port at the mouth of the river but the project was frustrated by the silting-up of the harbour.

Bird watching, canoeing, hiking, windsurfing and heritage trails are a few of the activities that you can partiipate in.
