Magoebaskloof Pass in Greater Tzaneen Rural, Limpopo
Magoebaskloof Pass is ideal for every traveller as the tarred road makes it ideal for all vehicles. However, do not take this Pass lightly, travellers must exercise caution travelling this scenic route as the constant mist does pose visibility challenges.
This exceptionally scenic Pass can be driven from either Haenertsburg, enjoy an early morning start and experience the atmospheric morning mist, or from Tzaneen stopping first at the view sites and reaching the snaking S-bends, picnic sites and restaurants mid-morning or near lunch time.
Travelling east from Tzaneen the road casually meanders past plantations and the Magoebaskloof Dam. Mist and fog warning signs will indicate the start of the Pass after the road crosses a small stream and starts to ascend. The first S-bend is followed by a picnic site if you wish to stop or carry on further past the horseshoe bend and halfway up the mountain you will find the popular Magoesbaskloof Rest Camp. The deck at its restaurant offers panoramic views of the Lowveld.
A highlight of this Pass is that it is an adventurer’s hotspot with hiking, horse riding, mountain biking, white water canoeing, zip-slides and canopy tours being on offer.
At the second view site, where a historic metal sign from the old pass has been retained, you are almost directly above the first hairpin many metres below. Another long S-bend brings you to the top of the pass, just beyond the turn-off to Woodbush Forest. From here the land undulates past plantations to quaint town of.
