The War Memorial is situated in the town of Graaff-Reinet in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.

Mayor Urquhart called a public meeting just three months after World War I ended and it was decided that a monument would be erected in honour of the men from Graaff-Reinet who lost their lives in the war. A most prominent site was chosen, the square in front of the Town Hall, and this beautiful Memorial was unveiled on the 7th November 1923 by H.R.H Prince Arthur of Connaught. The site is now known as the Mayor's Garden and the Memorial stands between two landmark buildings, the Town Hall and the Dutch Reformed Church, surrounded by beautiful trees and flowers.

The Memorial includes a bronze figure of the “Victory Peace Angel” mounted on a pedestal in the square. The statue was crafted by HC Fehr as a harbinger of peace. In one hand she holds a sword and in the other an olive wreath, a magnificent guardian and a timeless representation of reconciliation. The names of the men who died in World War I are inscribed on the monument and the names of the men who died in World War II, the Middellandse Regiment, were added on a later plaque.
