The Mouth Hiking Trail is situated in the Tsitsikamma Region in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.
The Mouth Trail, also known as the Suspension Bridge Hike, is located within the Tsitsikamma Section of the Garden Route National Park. It can be accessed from the Storms River Mouth Rest Camp entrance on the N2 along the very scenic Garden Route.
The walk is a 2 km easy stroll along the western side of the river mouth. There is winding boardwalk, with many steps, through indigenous forest with various benches and lookout points along the way so hikers can take a rest stop and enjoy the magnificent views of the Indian Ocean. The boardwalk leads to the famous and daring Storms River suspension bridge. Just across the bridge is a short, but steep climb to a lookout point at the top of the Head where you will find spectacular views of the mouth and the camp. On the way back hikers will walk across two smaller suspension bridges.
Although the boardwalk has quite a few stairs the trail is suitable for all ages and abilities. The journey to the bridge and back will take approximately 40 minutes to an hour, or if you go across the bridge to the lookout point approximately and hour and 20 minutes.
A nominal admission/conservation fee is charged to enter the National Park. Please contact the Park directly to confirm all prices.
