The Heart of Durban’s Sporting Precinct
The Durban Country Club is made up of two golfing estates, with its premier course, the Durban Country Club Golf Course lying south of the Umgeni River and bordering the warm Indian Ocean. Situated only a kilometre north of Durban’s beachfront and opposite the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium and Kings Park Stadium, the Durban Country Club boasts a proud history dating back to 1922.
The course is an 18-hole, 72 Par, Semi-Links style golf course with Cynodon Grass Fairways and Paspalum Grass Greens. The length of the Club Course is 6 111m, designed by George Waterman and LB Walters. The Course was later re-designed at a later stage by South African legend Gary Player.
The Durban Country Club Golf Course is one of the most unique and challenging courses in the world, boasting the unique claim of being the only course on the African continent to be rated in the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World by Golf Magazine USA. It is also rated in the Top 5 Golf Courses in South Africa by Golf Digest SA.
The course itself is beautiful, sculpted marvellously into the dunes with stunning views of the ocean, but do not get distracted by your surroundings as this typical links layout and the coastal sand dunes provide an interesting and difficult round of golf to both amateurs and pro’s alike. The third hole has been rated as one of the best in the world and is with out a doubt DCC’s signature hole.
Durban Country Club Golf Course has been selected 17 times to host the South African Open, including the centenary SA Open in 2010 which saw Ernie Els take his 5th title. DCC offers a truly wonderful golfing experience and is a definite on your must-play list!
