This SAAF Satellite Museum in Ysterplaat displays a collection of aircraft that covers the full period of the SAAF’s existence, its operational activities as well as military and civil aviation in the Cape. Not only are there displays showing aircraft, weapons, engines and uniforms but also smaller displays of Royal Flying Corps memorabilia.
This museum houses a fascinating recording of the history of aviation in South Africa and has collected original records and articles of historical significance which are all on display alongside the main attractions, the aircraft.
All visitors, local and international, must have their Identity Documents with them to visit the Museum as it is located on an active Airforce Base.
The line-up of aircraft or opening times of Airforce Museums on an active Airforce Base can always change and although tours are offered for Hanger 4, it is closed on weekdays when the base is operational.
