Just an hour and a half from Cape Town and on the doorstep of Tulbagh and Ceres lies the quaint little village town of Wolseley. Situated in the delightfully picturesque Breede River Valley, the town is surrounded by three mountains, Waaihoek, Witsen and Waterval which are often covered by a blanket of snow in the winter.
Visitors to this beautiful part of the Western Cape will arrive via one of four scenic passes, Bainskloof, Nuwekloof, Du Toitskloof or Mitchell, making the journey just as rewarding as the vacation. Another positive for the town of Wolseley is its position on Route 62, the longest wine route in the world.
Wolseley is situated on a natural watershed and the abundance of water means that a variety of farming occurs in the valley, which includes fruit, vegetables, wheat, olives, sheep and grapes. The many farm estates provide aesthetic beauty to the area as well as delicious food and wine. Besides the usual outdoor pursuits, visitors will find local pottery, home-crafts and a unique furniture factory tour to help them while away the hours.
There is plenty of farm accommodation, both luxury and budget, which includes choices such as bed and breakfast or self-catering units. The locals offer a warm welcome and the quaint village has many wine cellars and restaurants where holiday makers can taste the product of the land.

Sir Garnet Wolseley was a man of considerable dash and character, he inspired the expression 'It's all Sir Garnet', meaning that everything is in meticulous order.
It became one of the most important staging posts between the Cape and the Kimberly Diamond Fields and it received its municipal status in 1910.
