Rugged Glen Nature Reserve is very small compared to the other reserves in the uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park but has more to offer than some of the larger ones. It is only 762 hectares in extent but the beauty of the land is unsurpassed. It is situated to the north east of the Royal Natal Nature Reserve. Rugged Glen is one of the 12 protected areas that make up the uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park which is turn has world heritage status. Horse riding is one of the activities that most of the other 12 do not have to offer and makes this reserve very popular with the young and the young at heart.

- Maloti/Drakensberg minnow (Oreodaimon zuathlambae), which was thought to be extinct, is found at the Tsoelikana River on the Lesotho side of the Maloti /uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park
