Jewel of the South Coast
Southbroom lies on the lush KZN’s South Coast, approximately 140 km outside of Durban, and is a truly picturesque village tucked between the Mbizane and Umkobi Rivers.
This coastal village has plenty to offer holiday makers and has been referred to as the “Jewel” of the South Coast. Its finest asset is undoubtably its 4 km sandy Indian Ocean beach frontage which is passionately protected by Southbroom’s lush bush. The green lungs provided by the well-known Southbroom Golf Club, Frederika Nature Preserve and 350,000 square metres of township land zoned to conservation, enhance the lush green tropical paradise.
Southbroom is well-known for its three beautiful beaches, child-friendly tidal pools, lagoon and breathtaking views and their Southbroom Golf Course is rated one of the best in the country. The Shopping malls are just around the corner in neighbouring towns, Ramsgate, Margate and Shelly Beach.
Southbroom consists mostly of holiday homes, however the surrounding area offers guest houses, self-catering cottages and hotels.

History
In 1884 Alfred Eyles from Wiltshire, England, established the Imbizane Mission on the present day Outlook Farm. The Swedish Zulu Mission took over from Alfred Eyles and rebuilt Imbizane Mission at Bushy Vales in 1908 and to avoid confusion, the Eyles' family home was renamed "Southbroom" in reference to their family home back in Devizes, England.
Alfred Eyles' youngest sons Frank and Gilbert planned and proclaimed the park-like township on land acquired by their father and between 1935 and 1944, the town of Southbroom opened its Hotel, tidal pool, golf course and general store.
