Hoedjieskop Hiking Trail in Saldanha, Wes-Kaap
In the centre of the small town of Hoedjieskop near Saldanha Bay along the Cape West Coast is a short walking trail, not quite a hiking trail, but certainly worth the easy stroll to the beautiful viewpoint.
The Hoedjieskop “Hiking” Trail is clearly marked from the car park which services the Hoedjieskop Museum as well. A few quaint white homes can be seen in a cul-de-sac at the starting point.
The simple pathway will take you up to two vantage points where the well- maintained viewing decks offer stunning panoramic views of Saldanha Bay. Alongside the one viewing deck is a clearing which would be perfect to spread a blanket and enjoy a leisurely picnic.
The pretty trail will take you past the quaint homes in the area and up past an old graveyard, which looks a little neglected, but interesting none the less. A visit to the Museum will offer more information on the site. So, the next time you are in the area stop and take a stroll up to Hoedjieskop for a relaxed walk and some fabulous scenery.
