Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum

The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum is located in St George's Park, on the corner of Rink Street and Park Drive. It is home to a comprehensive collection of South African art and craft and specialises in the art of the Eastern Cape Province. Our three exhibition halls are re-hung throughout the year to accommodate our collections as well as our programme of special exhibitions.

Education Programmes

Public Programmes

Better understand and appreciate the Museum's collections through a diverse range of exhibitions and programmes, including fun, interactive activities for the entire family such as guided tours, holiday workshops, lectures, music and other entertainments.

Professional Services

Our Reference Library and Archives may be used by the public by appointment on weekdays. Conservation Studio and Research staff can assist with enquiries made by post, fax, email or phone. All consultations are by appointment only.

Museum Shop

Our shop offers an interesting selection of books, cards, gifts, posters, reproductions and other items. Catalogues of touring exhibitions are for sale in the shop, if available.

General 

Parking

There is limited street parking in Park Drive east and metered parking in Park Drive west and Rink Street.

Disabled access

There is a parking bay for the disabled outside the Arts Hall and wheel chair ramps leading to both entrances. A wheelchair is available on request.

Cameras and parcels

You may take photographs using a hand-held camera except where indicated. CCTV is in operation throughout the museum.

Please leave prams, large bags and rucksacks at the front desk.

  • Our museum is open to the public seven days a week except on New Years Day, Good Friday, Freedom Day, Workers Day, Youth Day and Christmas Day.
  • Weekdays, 09h00 to 17h00 (closed Tuesday mornings)
  • Saturdays & Sundays, 13h00 to 17h00
  • Public holidays, 14h00 to 17h00
  • Last Sunday of each month, 09h00 to 14h00
