Rust en Vrede Waterfall

A Hidden Beauty

The Rust en Vrede Waterfall, a natural beauty carved into the heart of the Swartland Mountains, is a scenic beauty branching off the R328 only 18 km’s outside Oudtshoorn.

This natural attraction is a must see and tourists often stop off here after a tour of the world famous Cango Caves. To reach the waterfall visitors will have to travel along a well graded gravel road to reach the parking area and thereafter visitors can follow a scenic nature trail for approximately 500 metres to the waterfall. The trail takes you over little bridges and along a path where wild flowers bloom profusely and the reward at the end is a cool pool and the majestic waterfall!

Visitors can dunk in the rock pool, but please take care as it is very slippery!

Picnic and braai facilities are available at the entrance, in the soft shade under the enormous trees. Unfortunately, these facilities are not available at the waterfall as it is a protected area, but bring along your snacks and refreshment and enjoy a relaxing time-out!

The name Rust en Vrede is taken from the Afrikaans expression for “rest and peace” and the waterfall setting is true to its translation and a “must visit” attraction.
