The market at Libode is a picturesque bustle on Fridays and Saturdays when Pondo and Mpondomise people come in to do their shopping.
The town is famous for its bead work.
Beyond Libode the road to Port St Johns leads down through the valley of the Umngazi. The scenery is dramatic, particularly the great tilted rock known as Mlengani, which means 'the hanging one', otherwise known as Execution Rock because of a mistaken belief that criminals were once pushed to their deaths from there. Such executions were in fact carried out at a nearby cliff overlooking the valley.
