South Africa
plekke wat jy nooit sal vergeet nie

The Drupkelders Hiking Trail is situated just outside Knysna in the Western Cape, South Africa.

The Trail can be located along the Garden Route tucked away between Knysna and Sedgefield. An exquisite forest trail, only 3.6 km’s that will only take about an hour. So gather the family for a picnic and head out on the N2 toward Rheenendal.

The trail takes hikers through stunning forests and down to the Homtini River. The last 10 minutes of the trail has steep descents leading out to the clearing and rock pool, so go slow, there is no rush anyway! This location is breathtaking, with forests and water surrounding you in this tranquil and secluded area, a perfect spot for a family picnic.

The rock pool is perfect for swimming, but diving is not recommended as the depth of the pool has not been determined. It is easy to be distracted by the excitement of swimming, but don’t forget to look out for the stalactites and stalagmites in the “celler” and enjoy watching the small animals and birds that could easily be darting about in the forest.

The hike is rated as moderate to hard, because of the steep descents and would be manageable for children from about 13 years and older. Remember to wear proper shoes and don’t forget the picnic basket with water, sunscreen, swimwear and camera!
