Cape St Francis Beach in Kaap St Francis, Oos-Kaap

Cape St. Francis is found at the most southern part of the Eastern Cape with a beautiful light house built in 1878 that is now a National Monument. The beach is surrounded by nature reserves and is a gorgeous 3 km stretch of sand from Shark Point to Seal Point.

Seal Point is the third most southerly point in South Africa and is also a world class surf reef perfect for people with a passion for surfing. The Cape St Francis beach is also a popular place for sand boarding on the Sand River Dunes if surfing on water isn’t quite your style.

There are beautiful walks through the reserves around the beach that are easily enough reason to visit on its own. The Shark Point walk will take you past the Sea Point Lighthouse and the Shark Point shipwreck.

During the holidays, the beach sees visitors and locals flocking to this stretch of sand, but it is so vast and wide that it very seldom looks crowded. Warm currents of the Indian ocean hit the beach making it a year-round amazing beach to go swimming in, however, when the occasional strong wind comes in it can drop the water temperature.
