Greyton’s Favourite Hike

The Boesmanskloof Trail, is also known as the Greyton to McGregor Hiking Trail for obvious reasons as the trail links these two towns and the trail can start and end from either town.

Following the shortest route between the two towns, the trail runs through the Riviersonderend Mountains for 14 km. Hikers will need to be fit as the trail is a moderate to hard trail that can be quite strenuous to complete in one day. It is recommended that the trail be done in one direction or “there-and-back” over two days and hikers can book comfortable overnight accommodation at The Galg Farm, near the end of the trail in McGregor. If hiking from McGregor to Greyton, there is plenty of accommodation to choose from.

Other than incredibly beautiful scenery the Boesmanskllof Hiking Trail offers hikers opportunities to go river and rock pool swimming and one of the most beautiful lunch stops you will ever come across at the Oak Falls. The trail starts at Jeep Track and Breakfast Rock is so named because by the time you reach it, it’s about breakfast time. The route is signposted on wooden boards.

The last section of the trail provides hikers with a choice: the historic pass, a steep, but shorter version that follows an actual 'road' or the natural beauty, but no real road route. Both routes are signposted on a wooden board and are in opposite directions.
