The Cape Agulhas National Park can be found at the southernmost tip of Africa, only 45 minutes from the coastal village of Gansbaai, in an area known as the Agulhas Plain. The fynbos of the Agulhas Plain is of global significance and the 270 000 hectare Park is a mosaic of agricultural land separated by stretches of rare and endemic coastal lowland fynbos and wetlands.
The National Park is well-known for its’ beauty and peaceful atmosphere and so it is no wonder that it is a sort after vacation destination with many day visitors every year! Its jagged coast line has been described as “the edge of the world, a place where the world ends at the horizon” and the views of the ocean described as “a blue sea stretching so far until it fades into the blue sky”.
Apart from the Parks natural beauty and charm the Cape Agulhas National Park offers popular attractions such as it beaches, its Lighthouse and the opportunity for visitor to see the southernmost tip of Africa and the place where two Oceans meet! The area also offers wonderful whale watching opportunities as well as a graveyard of ships that lie just off the coast once known as ‘the Cape of Storms’, where some 250 ships have been wrecked over time.
The Cape Agulhas National Park is perfect to visit year round, summer time offers the beach, whales and hiking trails and winter time brings bird watching and misty, rainy Cape storms with evenings alongside the fireplace.
