plekke wat jy nooit sal vergeet nie

Come enjoy this relaxed freestyle setting – “there hippies everywhere man!”

Life in Calvinia moves a little slower and visitors to this part of the Cape are usually looking for something different when they choose this destination for a get-away. The Republic of RusticaA, aka Blikskottel B&B, will not disappoint.

This quirky B&B is more than just accommodation. Owners Dirk and Sonja van Rensburg offer a type of “rustic art retreat” where guests can indulge their taste buds with local bakery delights and their creative minds with the unusual and unique art pieces in the “junk yard”.

Dirk is a collector of “things”, all things! Everything he collects from old postcards and photographs to road signs and farm equipment is arranged into a colourful display of art and the scene here is extremely diversified. There is much to see and experience in this little piece of “hippie heaven” with free spirited people and interesting conversations.

Next door is the bakery and Dirk is crazy about his baking. He bought “Oom Daan’s Secret Pie Recipe” from Oom Daan himself before he passed away and so continues the legacy of the tasty “100% Hantam Skaapvleis (sheep meat) Pie” that is guaranteed NOT to give you heartburn!
