The Valley of 1000 Hills is situated in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It is located between the city of Durban and Pietermaritzburg, approximately a half hours drive from Durban city centre.
The area is named after the thousands of hills and valleys that dip and roll down to the Umgeni River, which flows from the Drakensberg Mountains into the Indian Ocean. Few tourist destinations cater as well to everyone’s taste as this location does. The area is a living Zulu museum with wildlife, unspoilt nature and spectacular scenery from the snow topped mountains to the deep blue sea.
Visitors have an array of outdoor activities to embark on and more places to shop than they can think of, from sophisticated shopping malls to village arts and crafts stalls. The valley can be experienced from all angles from history, adventure, wildlife, sports and relaxation all in the proximity of 20 km. All this makes this area a favourite of both local and international tourists.

Climate
Durban has a warm climate throughout the year with cooler evenings in the winter months and rainfall in the summer months.
Summer months, November to March will have average temperatures of between 15˚C and 29˚C.
Winter months, May to August will have average temperatures of between 7˚C and 20˚C.
Transport
There are Domestic and International flights into Durban’s King Shaka Airport on a daily basis. Car rental companies are available for self drive trips along the N2 the valley area.
Festivals
February – Dusi Canoe Marathon: One of the worlds’ toughest and most prestigious canoe races held over three days and 120 km.
May – Comrades Marathon: The world’s greatest ulta-marthon, 89 km long run between Pietermaritzburg and Durban.
