Vaal Teknorama Museum

The Vaal Teknorama, Regional Museum of the Sedibeng District, officially opened in 1992, and has two permanent exhibitions:

  • Local Leaders Hall
  • Sedibeng Heritage Hall

Both of these halls reflect a comprehensive history of the Sedibeng area. There is also a temporary exhibition hall which exhibits items from contemporary, local and ethnic artwork, to Anglo Boer War photos and the Sharpeville Massacre.

The Vaal Teknorma offers guided tours to local heritage sites.

Local Leaders Hall

The Local Leaders Hall houses a whole section dedicated to the Liberation Struggle in the Vaal Area up until the signing of the New South African Constitution in 1996. The Vaal Triangle played a central role during this era of our history.

Sedibeng Heritage Hall

The Sedibeng Heritage Hall houses the Heritage Section of the Sedibeng District Municipality, including palaeontology, stone age and iron age artefacts found in the Vaal area, examples of unique and mysterious rock engravings found near Vereeniging, classic vehicles and other items related to the industrial history of Vereeniging and photographs from the Anglo-Boer War, including images of the concentration camps in Vereeniging and nearby Heidelberg. The town of Vereeniging and its people played very important roles in bringing the war to an end therefore part of the Heritage Exhibition is dedicated to the South African War.
