Lappiesbaai Beach is the most popular beach in the scenic coastal town of Stilbaai along the Garden Route. Being a Blue Flag beach means that visitors can expect a clean and well cared for environment with ablutions, wheelchair access and lifeguards during peak season.

Lappiesbaai translates to Rags Bay and this beach got its rather unusual name from previous years when locals used to dry their washing on the bushes of the dunes. Today though the bay and town is known as the “Bay of Sleeping Beauty” after one of the peaks in the nearby Langeberg Mountains that looks like a sleeping woman.

Set on the warm Indian Ocean you can spend your time swimming, sun tanning and collecting pansy shells or taking a leisurely stroll on this 3 km largely unspoilt beach. Experience peace, quiet, rest and tranquillity or for the more energetic, water sports such as surfing, bodyboarding and canoeing can be enjoyed in the ocean or on the lagoon. During winter and spring, the beach is a favourite spot for watching Southern Right and Humpback whales.

The use of interpretive signage helps to explain this natural beach and its rural surroundings.
