University of Stellenbosch Botanical Garden

Stellenbosch University is home to one of 1800 botanical gardens world wide and South Africa’s oldest university botanical gardens. The Stellenbosch University Botanical Gardens covers just less than 4 hectares, so fairly small and compact, but visitors will be surprised at the variety of plants and plant products found here.

The Gardens are beautifully maintained and hosts and enormous diversity of plants, both exotic and indigenous to South Africa. It boasts an excellent bonsai collection along with other plants such as Mexican Cacti, aquatic plants from the Amazon and Puya plants form Chile. Besides being a centre for recreation the Gardens are also widely regarded as an open-air laboratory serves as a centre for science, training and conservation.

The Botanical Gardens are divided into themed gardens, some dating back to the founding of the gardens and while many are purely for the public to enjoy, others are still used by the University students for practical studies. This tranquil and beautiful setting is ideal for budding photographers and also offers light meals for those wanting to enjoy the natural surroundings a little longer.

Admission

There is no admission fee charged to enter the Gardens
