The South African Naval Museum is situated in none other than South Africa’s main naval port of Simon’s Town. It is one of only five naval museums in the Southern Hemisphere and the first of its kind in Africa.

The Museum pays homage to the country’s naval history and includes some glimpses into today’s modern naval operations with both models and life-size exhibits for its visitors. Come and enjoy the maritime magnificence, the land based museum has outstanding displays exhibiting weapons, charts, medals, uniforms, naval equipment and photographs used throughout history by the Natal Volunteer Reserves, Cape Colony Reserves and in the South African Navy.

The SA Naval Museum is housed in a three-story building around the original Dockyard Magazine/Storehouse and is staffed by Naval Personnel and civilian volunteers. It is way bigger than it first appears and besides the continuously expanding exhibits and naval associated artefacts indoors, there are also guns, radar masts, the lowers station and the pylons of the Aerial Ropeway can also be seen outside.
