Kredouw Pass in Prince Albert Rural, Western Cape

The Kredouw Pass lies approximately 25 km outside of Prince Albert, on the R407, where it runs parallel to the Swartberg Mountains on its way to the farming hamlet of Klaarstroom.

The Pass was originally named the Kareedouw Pass however the name was sensibly shortened to Kredouw Pass which also assisted in not confusing it with the actual Kareedouw Pass just south of the town Kareedouw further east on the R62.

The tar road is in good condition with the initial climb being the best part of the Pass – the Kredouw Pass is rather mundane in comparison to the adjoining majestic Swartberg Pass. The initial climb to the summit will take about ten minutes to drive and if you look to your left (the north side), you will see the original gravel Pass which followed a far more treacherous path down the valley.

An interesting “need to know” is that there is a geocache hidden on the summit of Kredouw Pass where it overlooks the Prince Albert Valley. The hint is 'Rock'!
