One of the Most Impressive Trails in the World

The Perlemoen Trail is centred around the famous Great White Shark and Whale watching capital of Gansbaai. The trail is a four day hike however, each leg is offered as an independent day walk and each has a shorter lighter option if required. Put simply, the Perlemoen Trail is a hiking trail for leisure walkers and serious hikers!

The Trail is a nature journey along the pristine South Western Cape shoreline, from Quoin to De Kelders. It provides fascinating insights into the area and is a trail for nature lovers and cultural enthusiasts offering fynbos, birdlife, white sandy beaches, sea cliffs and limestone caves. The area is famous for Perlemoen (Abalone) poaching and hence its name.

The guided trail begins at Die Dam Resort in Quoin Point Reserve where the first day hikers will observe a local Cape Fur Seal breeding colony, the historical light station, the Fynd & Swona Shipwreck and will walk along a 4 km stretch of open beach which offer the perfect spot to take a swim and cool off. Day two offers up a unique opportunity to walk through an abandoned holiday resort buried in sand, this areas version of a “ghost town”. Another shipwreck can be viewed, the Otori Maru and Sweetfontein can provide great dolphin and whale viewing in season.

The third day of the Trail follows the route from Pearly Beach to Franskraal and the final day leads hikers to De Kelders along an impressive and safe cliff path with spectacular views over Walker Bay Nature Reserve. Explore the Klipgat Caves where the Trail ends at a beautiful viewpoint at Die Plaat.
