A Great Love for Tractors

The Randell Ranch Tractor Museum can be found on the Bloemkrans Farm in Mpumalanga. The owner, Jan Randell, just has “a great love for tractors – it’s part of the farming business”!

Jan Randell started his tractor collection in August 2007 and has collected 150 machines in total. The Museum houses a large display of vintage tractors with the oldest being a Farmall Model Regular dating back to 1924.

Randell’s Ranch Museum also boast a collection of motorcycles, automobiles, trucks and engines. The motorcycle collection includes the Ermelo traffic officer patrol bike, a BMW bike from 1950 and the engine collection has an engine like the one used to generate electricity for the bioscope in Amerfoot. There are five different exhibits in the motorcycle collection and the automobile and trucks collection ranges from a 1929 Chevrolet to a Ford Mustang M1. There is also a miniature model collection of almost all the tractors in the shed!

All the tractors in the collection are in working order and if you are lucky, while you are viewing the collection, Jan may start up the odd one so you can hear what it sounds like. The Museum spread its wings and have added old church organs and even a 1948 Beechcraft Bonanza 35 Aeroplane to the collection.

Jan and his older brother Pieter are still farming east of Ermelo, right where it all began in 1945. Their sons are also keen farmers, and the Randell family will be farming for many years to come.
