Tamboti Tented Rest Camp

Tamboti Tented Camp is one of the park's most popular caravan and camping sites. The stilted safari tents are complemented by the area's tall Marula and Tamboti trees, which secure the camp’s ambiance of tranquil seclusion while the Timbavati river bed, generally dry throughout the year, provides a great setting.

Regular guests in the area are kudu and black rhino, as both have a special affinity for the bitter leaves of the Tamboti tree, which is an acquired taste among some of the Park’s animals.

Many other animals can be viewed from the comfort of an open vehicle safari - the first choice of activity for anyone staying in the bush. While these game drives offer the opportunity to spot the Big Five, avid birders might enjoy spending time at the bird hide at Tamboti camp or one of the nearby dams in the hopes of spotting one of the many species of bird that frequent the area, including Marabou Storks, African Fish Eagles and the Dark Chanting Goshawk.

Wildlife in the area includes a host of elephant, zebra, impala, warthog, wildebeest and giraffe along the drive from Orpen to Satara, as well as lion, cheetah and leopard near the North Timbavati river and Olifants camp.

Knowledgeable and equipped field guides are also available to lead groups out into the bush for a few hours, along the most picturesque route of the Timbavati River area, where they educate guests on how to observe the bushveld environment and relate incredible facts about the African wilderness. On guided bush walks, one has a chance to see the smaller animals and interesting tracks and vegetation that are often missed while on game drives. At the end of the day, guests can relax around a fire at the camp's boma and regale each other with stories of the day's sightings.

Safari-tented accommodation units at Tamboti camp are all self catering and serviced daily. Guests have an option of staying in the semi-luxury riverside tents or the more affordable two or four-bedded tents, which also overlook the river. The tranquility and harmony of the rustic surrounds here imbue the Tamboti Tented Camp with a natural bush feeling that is so special and unique, guests will want to stay on indefinitely.
