The resort of Paradise Beach is on the western side of the lagoon formed at the mouth of the Seekoe and Swart rivers.
The lagoon is a bird sanctuary and flamingoes, swans and some 55 other species can be seen here.
The swans are said to be descendants of two birds being transported on a ship which was wrecked at Cape St Francis in 1929. Before abandoning the ship, one of the crew released the swans. They flew to the lagoon and settled. Today there are hundreds of swans in the area.
