Gamtoos Mouth valley is a natures paradise just 20 minutes from Jeffrey’s Bay and 35 minutes from Port Elizabeth.
Gamtoos Mouth is surrounded by fynbos and natural vegetation, river and lagoon and stunning ocean views, making it a prime holiday destination. This is the perfect spot to unwind, relax and explore! The area has a number of scenic hikes and trails and the Gamtoos River and Lagoon offers wonderful opportunities for canoeing, boating and fishing. The river is formed by the confluence of the Kouga River and the Groot River and is approximately 645 kilometres long.
At the mouth of the Gamtoos River lies a stunning beach with a huge stretch of soft white sand, perfect for lengthy strolls. The soft white sand is lapped by the warm greens and blue water of the warm India Ocean - visitors will love exploring the beach and splashing about in the warm water waves. The Gamtoos Mouth Nature Reserve provides more outdoor fun for nature lovers.
Gamtoos Mouth is close by the small town of Hankey, the oldest town in the Gamtoos Valley, and visitors are close enough to enjoy attractions from here as well as tourist attractions from Jeffrey’s Bay and the very popular holiday destination of Port Elizabeth.
Gamtoos Mouth is a small, but offers some of the best camping, self-catering and resort accommodation alongside the Gamtoos River and Mouth.

Climate
Gamtoos Mouth receives approximately 611 mm of rain annually with rainfall occurring throughout the year.
Summer months, November to March will have average temperatures of between 16˚C and 25˚C.
Winter months, May to August will have average temperatures of between 9˚C and 20˚C.
Transport
There are daily flights into Port Elizabeth International Airport approximately 73 Km’s away along the N2. Car hire facilities are available at the Airport.
History
The Gamtoos Mouth and River most likely derived its name from a Khoikhoi clan whose name was given by early Dutch settlers as "Gamtousch".
The Gamtoos Valley is known as the Vegetable / Fruit Basket of the Eastern Cape.
