Clarkson, in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, can be found approximately 45 km outside of Humansdorp. It is scenically placed at the foot of the Tsitsikamma Mountains.
This small town could be a short stop over for a traveler meandering along the R102 and Route 62, which offers a more scenic route to that of the N2 Highway. With no hotels in the town, travellers can book outdoor accommodation in caravan parks, chalets and camping sites. If being this close to nature is not for you, more suitable accommodation in the form of Guest Houses, B&B’s etc. can be found along Route 62 and the R102.

With plenty of outdoor activities and attractions in the surrounding areas, time spent in Clarkson would be ideal for the adventure seeker and those looking for the peace and tranquility of bird watching.

The Tsitsikamma Coastline is perfect for long beach walks, horse rides and marine safaris, be sure to experience it all when visiting!
Climate
Summer months, November to March will have average temperatures of between 15˚C and 21˚C with fair rainfall in October and November.
Winter months, May to August will have average temperatures of between 11˚C and 20˚C with June to August being its peak rainy season.
Transport
Commercial Airlines offer flights into Port Elizabeth, the closest local Airport. Self-drive trips can be taken with a hired vehicle along the N2 highway or for the more scenic trip to Clarkson use Route 102.
If you prefer guided tours in the area, there are plenty to choose from along the Garden Route.
Festivals
With no Festivals taking place in Clarkson town itself, visitors will have to look at the surrounding areas such as Tsitsikamma, Kareedouw, Jeffreys Bay and Plettenberg Bay. Here are a few:-
Kareedouw
March – Karrie Festival: A celebration of the local brewed Honey Beer known as “Karrie”
August – Worsfees: Held in the main street and sponsored by the local butchery.
Tsitsikamma
May – Elvis / Rock-n-Roll Weekend: Held at Marilyn’s 60’s Diner in the pretty little Village of Storms River.
August – Storms River Traverse: A 3-day bike ride through mountains, plantations and coastline alongside the Storms River Village
History
The Village Clarkson was established as a station of the Mission Board of the Movarian Church in 1839 by Bishop HP Hallback. It was named after Thomas Clarkson who played a leading role in helping to abolish the slave trade.
