Queens Beach in Sea Point, Cape Town, Western Cape

Queens Beach can be found at the south end of Sea Point, set snugly between Sunset Beach and Saunders Rocks Beach. The beach is easy to find as it lies on the popular Sea Point Promenade and was named after the Queen’s Hotel that was built nearby in 1887.

Not the most popular swimming beach, no life guards and only a shallow gully between the rocks providing a safe spot in which to swim, also if you are not a local you may find the water temperature resembling more like that of a refrigerator! What Queens Beach is most popular for in Sea Point is sunbathing as it is more secluded than those beneath the main stretch of the Promenade. Overlooked by most beachgoers, this beach is only ever crowded on New Year’s Day, when, every beach in SA is packed to the hilt!

A nice small beach to enjoy with the family, the kids can play in the rock pools and there are shells everywhere to collect – bring along your sandals if you have sensitive feet! Queens Beach boasts what local surfers call a “big and mushy” break. It is an experienced surfers spot, the take-off here is over very shallow rock so it can be quite intimidating.

Queens Beach is a five minute walk from the Sea Point Pavilion Swimming Pools, close to restaurants and a great spot to stop and enjoy the views of Lions Head, particularly at sunset.
