A Passion For Prawns

One of the most highly anticipated events of the horse racing season in the Western Cape is the Cape Town Prawn Festival. Strange as it seems to pair thoroughbreds with prawns this summertime festival has proved to be a “not-to-be-missed” family fun day for horse racing enthusiasts.

Spectators at the Kenilworth Racecourse can tuck into a seemingly never-ending supply of fresh prawns and side dishes. The delicious seafood is accompanied by a side of rice or chips and a choice of sauces including peri-peri, lemon butter and garlic butter. If prawns are not quite your plate of choice, the festival also provides a selection of other tasty dishes.

Prawns are not the only highlight of the event, world-class thoroughbreds will be sprinting to the finish line throughout the day. The main attractions of course being the vasco Prix Du cap and the Grade s CTS Chairman’s Cup.

What makes this festival a true family affair is that the live entertainment, competitions and plenty of kids activities and to top it off, entrance if Free!
