A Cultural & Historical Landmark

The Arderne Gardens in Cape Town is a South African Provincial Heritage and the 5-hectare park, containing more than 400 trees, is managed by the City of Cape Town.

The Garden contains one of the richest collections of exotic trees and shrubs in South Africa which now officially includes one of the largest trees in the country, the vast Moreton Bay Fig Tree, commonly known as the “Wedding Tree”. This tree, along with another five were proudly designated Champion Trees in 2008.

For generations these beautiful gardens have been a place for Capetonians to bring their families to for picnics and to simply relax in, away from the hustle and bustle of city life. It is also a favourite venue for wedding photographs and for this reason, can be a very colourful place on the weekends.

Walkways curve and meander through the garden, which is big enough to stroll through in an afternoon, and benches can be found in romantic nooks throughout the park, inviting visitors to sit and admire the towering trees above them. The natural appeal of Arderne is obvious, visitors can also expect to see Guinea Fowl, Geese and Ducks while on their walkabout.

Whether an experienced Horticulturist or just someone looking to get fresh air, Arderne Gardens is the place to go!
