The small beach in the conservation village of Misty Cliffs is known as Witsands Beach by the locals. Only a short 45 minute drive from Cape Town, Witsands Beach is ideal for beach goers looking for a tranquil, unspoilt and quiet bit of sand on which to lay their towel.

The name Misty Cliffs came to be because of the mist that hangs over the town and beach on most days of the year and the name Witsands (white sands) from the obvious beautiful beach sand. A steep stone stairway takes you on to Witsands Beach, and although it is a small beach, the soft white sand is great for picnics and long walks. Bring along your furry friends as this is one of the Cape Town beaches that allow dogs, off leads.

The beach is very popular with water sport enthusiasts, from stand-up paddle boarders to kite surfers. Surfers also love this beach because of its big barrelling waves however, for the same reason it is not the best swimming beach - the rock pools though are great for a safe splash around with the little ones.

Be sure to bring all you need along with you as there are no shops or restaurants within walking distance.
