Gonubie Beach in the Eastern Cape of South Africa is situated 25 km north of the city of East London, about a 20 minute drive from the city centre.

The beach is at the Gonubie River and has achieved Blue Flag status, an international award only given to beaches that meet stringent standards in environment protection, safety equipment, lifeguard staff on hand and facilities provided.

The impressive boardwalk is a perfect spot to view dolphins, whales and surfers, while the lagoon is a favourite with the kiddies as they explore for shells and small sea creatures.

Admission

The Beach is open every day of the year during daylight hours and there is no admission fee charged.

Climate

East London has rainfall in the summer months.

Summer months, November to March will have average temperatures of between 15˚C and 27˚C.

Winter months, May to August will have average temperatures of between 9˚C and 22˚C.

Transport

There are Domestic flights into East London Airport on a daily basis. Hotel transfers, taxis and car rental companies are available for easy access around the area.
