South Africa
beauty, you'll never forget

The Worcester Campus of the University of Stellenbosch is set on a 3.7 hectare plot and the buildings consist of an academic building and student residence.

Much thought has gone into the landscaping of this campus and a special technique was used to re-establish indigenous Karoo plants. This reduced the watering to nil and the minimal maintenance is nil. The noise pollution on the campus was tackled by using the left over gravel to build an embankment next to the busy road that runs alongside the campus.

The campus is the home of the Ukwanda Rural Clinical School (RCS) for the faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the Stellenbosch University.

The Worcester District Hospital, which is one of the school's clinical training localities, is within walking distance from this campus.

History

The Worcester Campus being the fifth Campus of Stellenbosch University was officially opened in 2012 at the time that the Ukwanda Rural Clinical School of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences was set up.

When the Worcester Campus was set up the Ukwanda Centre for Rural Health had been in operation for 10 years.

2013 Sees the training of other health care professionals and health care workers in a rural environment, and provides the ground for research topics that are relevant to the rural population.
