The FNB Joburg Art Fair is the only international Art Fair on the continent and the leading, premium visual art event in Africa. Now in its ninth year it continues to present the finest of contemporary African Art and memorable exhibitions attracting artists, curators, collectors and enthusiasts from far and wide.
The Art Fair creates a platform for up and coming as well as leading artists and thinkers and sees an annual flock of art appreciators to the Sandton Convention Centre to peruse and purchase the works of hundreds of artists. This year, the Fair will feature 90 exhibitions within 6 categories and the selected galleries are from 12 countries across Africa, Europe and the United States.
The focus of the 2016 Special Projects programme is on a section that spotlights the East Africa’s artistic landscape and will feature a selection of leading artists from Kampala, Bujumbura, Nairobi and Dar es Salaam. The highlight of this programme is the 2016 Featured Artist, Wangechi Mutu from Kenya/USA.
A new addition to this years’ Fair will be the TED Johannesburg Talks themed on the contemporary visial arts in Africa. The full day of talks will be from dynamic, artists and curators and will be hosted at the Theatre on the Square.
