Masiphumelele High School is a public secondary school. In 2014 there were 1213 registered learners.

Nelson Ma'Afrika left his school, Masiphumelele High, open until 8pm on weekdays and all weekend so that the pupils, who lived in this congested Cape Town township, had a safe, quiet place to study. Community members provided security and watch over the school.

One result has been the rise in his school's matric results from 28% to 85% in seven years.
